In 1998
Mr
Praveen Ohal, a young geology graduate and environmentalist started working
on issues related to environment and animal protection with a
few of his young friends. He decided to
embark on an awareness and fundraising walk that should have
taken him across Asia to Sydney, Australia in time for the Olympics. Supported by the World
Wildlife Fund (WWF) and Rotary Clubs. Praveen succeeded in completing
90% of his journey finishing in Singapore, because he was unable to find
a donor who could provide the required sponsorship limit
set as pre-entry criteria by Australian embassy. Praveen walked the length and breadth
of India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Laos, Vietnam,
Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. During his walk Praveen spoke to children
in over 200 schools across these countries on
issues of environment and animal protection. He also raised enough
money to buy land for construction of an Animal Clinic & Shelter with a training centre for HOPE & Animal Trust.

Preface -
I did not begin my journey for adventures sake. I wanted to do something worthwhile. It was not an adventure for nothing. I felt confident that one day during the Olympics, I would walk to Australia. My dreams gathered strength, eventually growing into the inspiration to begin this expedition. My goal was to spread a message of solidarity: conservation of our environment, protection of its endangered species and prevention of cruelty towards people
and animals.
